We'd have preferred to publish this update once the samples of the first molds are approved, but we can't delay it much further, 2 months between updates is too long already and we apologize for that.
We have had 3 rounds of samples made since we posted the last update, the last round being on its way to Andreas.
It was expected to have the molds ready by now, after the 2 round of samples. But as things go with production, our last samples were not up to par, so we have required one more round of samples. It should be shipped to Andreas today, if it hasn't already. Here is the factory potato pic by the way (they injected with the blue and red colors for this test round):
Delays happen, but we were hoping to have the molds produced and the changes made a tiny bit faster. We had to solve most issues that arise with any keycaps projects. Spacebar warping being one of them, as expected, it's even why we chose to make that mold first. Others included texture matching and positioning, and plastic opacity. All these can be solved, but take time to fix the mold, adjust the plastic blend, etc. Not to mention the issues specific to doubleshot legends, that make the whole project more complicated than we ever did before.
As it stands, those issues should have been fixed already, and we are waiting for the samples to make sure of that. Whether or not these samples are approved, we will start production of the rest of the molds, assuming there are no more major issues.
Q1 2025 is not a realistic target anymore. We understand this will come as a disappointment, and for transparency sake, we will lay out what we know of the future timeline, so you can hold us accountable for the dates we provide. Of course, please be aware that these are estimates and while we aim to be as accurate as possible, things will happen that we can't control.
Also, Chinese New Year holiday starts on Jan 29th. If you didn't know, this is a special time of the year where China basically shuts down for a week to a month, depending on the company.
Injection and packing will be quick as our order is fairly small compared to the usual orders sizes that is in the tens or hundreds of thousands. Getting the molds approved is the hard part.
We accounted for 2 rounds of samples for the full sets (which is about approving the rest of the molds). This is the one thing to keep an eye on as far as the timeline goes. Should we require more samples, a month delay is to be expected. We do hope the experience gained on those first molds will prevent the factory from making the same mistakes, but humans being humans, it can't be guaranteed.
